Pakistan's mango production was severely affected by an extreme heatwave last spring, leading to a significant decrease in the 2022/23 harvest. The high temperatures and water shortages caused by the heatwave resulted in a reduction in the export target by one-sixth to 125,000 metric tons. To boost mango yield and exports, a strategy has been developed to focus on China as a premium market, with investments proposed to improve pest control, farm hygiene, and cold chain transportation. The industry is also seeking government investment in heat-resistant cultivars and digital agriculture services. Despite marketing efforts in China, mango exports to the country have not reached expected levels.
