Papaya: Decline in Espírito Santo Production Raises Quotations

Hawaii Papaya quotations advanced significantly in the main producing regions over the past week. This is what data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) indicates. According to researchers from the institute, papaya farmers reported that rainfall above expectations is harming fruit quality. This is considering that unfavorable weather also increases the incidence of fungal diseases. Thus, the supply of good quality fruits is reduced. Rains and lower temperatures have also limited fruit development, resulting in lower supply in the crops. Last week, marketing prices were R$ 3.17/kg for 12-18 hawaii from northern Espírito Santo, which is 258% higher than the previous period.
