Paraguay: Importation of meat grew by 130% at the end of August

Paraguay continues to import considerable quantities of meat to seek a balance in prices by expanding the supply of cuts. As of the end of August, inflation in meat was 0.6% compared to the previous month, and the accumulated inflation reached 6.8%. According to data from the BCP, in August 1,818 tons of beef were imported for USD 6.15 million, figures slightly lower than the 1,862 tons imported in July, for USD 6.6 million. In cumulative terms, by the end of August, imports reached a volume of 12,063 tons, amounting to USD 41.8 million. In the same period of the previous year, 5,497 tons had been imported for USD 18.2 million, indicating a growth of 119.5% and 129.6%, respectively. As observed in the statistical annex of the parent bank, 1,158 tons were imported in January, 1,190 tons in February, 1,323 tons in March, 1,695 tons in April, 1,522 tons in May, 1,496 tons in June, and 1,862 tons in July.
