Paraguay's soybean exports have been crucial for the Argentine oil industry's operations, especially during a severe drought in 2022/23 that impacted the local harvest. Despite an recovery in the Argentine soybean harvest in the 2023/24 commercial cycle, Paraguay continues to contribute significantly to Argentina's soybean supply, accounting for 20% of Argentine milling in the recent quarter. The high volume of imports is expected to surpass projections, aided by the "temporary admission" regime that facilitates the entry of inputs for industrial improvement, with an export duty rate applied to the added value. This regime, reintroduced in 2016, allows for the export of soybean flour and oil, essential for Argentina's foreign currency earnings.
