Last Wednesday, Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of introducing concrete changes to facilitate the application of European anti-deforestation rules to companies, global stakeholders, Member States, and third countries. This decision comes after the previous plenary session agreed to accelerate the European Commission's new proposal to simplify the legislation. An extra year for companies According to the approved text, companies will have an additional year to comply with the new European anti-deforestation rules. Large operators and traders will have to comply with the legislation's obligations starting from December 30, 2026, while smaller companies (those with fewer than fifty employees and annual revenues below ten million euros) will have to do so starting from June 30, 2027.
