Peach harvest begins in Bursa, farmers satisfied with prices

As the peach and nectarine harvest begins in Bursa, the wholesale price reaching 100 lira per kilogram has delighted farmers. Gürsu Agricultural Chamber President Kamil Dönmez noted that Gürsu Plain is normally known for pear production and predominantly cultivates this product, adding that peach production is also significant. Explaining that Gürsu typically produces an average of 18-20 thousand tons of peaches and nectarines annually, Dönmez said this year's crop is expected to be around 13-14 thousand tons due to frost damage, and noted that the harvest and prices are going well for farmers. Emphasizing that their products generally go to the domestic market, Dönmez said, "The relatively low exchange rate is preventing exports. Domestic market prices are currently higher than international prices."
