The agar plant in Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea, is currently preparing for the harvest season. The plant is busy moving radish to dry, which had been frozen and melted for about a month to produce agar. This coagulated product is then boiled and squeezed out. The Miryang area is the main production area for agar in Korea, due to the large daily temperature difference between day and night, which is ideal for freezing and melting the radish. The local Hansan plant has the largest production capacity in the East, and the products are traditionally exported to Japan.
