The National University Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza in Peru has made history by cloning the first Peruvian Paso horse, a symbol of national culture. The foal, born after a 332-day gestation, is in good health and marks a significant advancement in Peruvian science, aligning the country with leading nations in cloning. The cloning was possible due to somatic cell nuclear transfer technology and involved collaboration with the Livestock and Biotechnology Research Institute and the Peruvian Paso Horse Breeders Association of Piura. This achievement follows Peru's 2017 cloning of a Jersey breed calf, marking progress in the preservation and improvement of notable animal genetics.
