In 2023, Peru ranked 10th globally and 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean as a supplier of exotic fruits like passion fruit, despite an 11% increase in revenue to $66.9 million compared to the previous year. However, a 9.8% drop from January to May 2024 due to climatic phenomena, new pests, and diseases is projected to decrease exports by 6% in 2024. Despite these challenges, there is potential for growth in the cosmetics industry and opportunities for improvement in agronomic management. A collaborative effort between INIA and Adex is aimed at enhancing fruit development and productivity. The Profrut project aims to introduce a new commercial variety of passion fruit in two years, which could further boost the industry.
