In 2023, Peru ranked 10th globally and 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean as a supplier of exotic fruits such as passion fruit, achieving exports worth $66.93 million, a 11% increase from the previous year. Despite this growth, there was a concern for a 9.8% drop in passion fruit production from January to May due to climatic phenomena, new pests, and diseases. However, there are efforts to identify these issues and implement solutions in collaboration with the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA). There is potential for growth in the cosmetics industry and there are ongoing public-private initiatives to improve agronomic management and develop a new commercial variety of passion fruit.
