Since 1997, Peru's sugarcane industry has seen an investment of around US$ 1.8 billion, leading to a 30,000-hectare increase in the agricultural sector. The country produces 12 million tons of cane annually, with a yield higher than Brazil. Sugar production reaches up to 1.2 million tons annually, with 10% being exported and an additional 250,000 to 300,000 tons imported. The industry also produces between 180,000 and 189,000 cubic meters of alcohol, including ethanol, annually. The industry has generated over 100,000 jobs and includes 20,000 small cane growers. It also contributes to the circular economy, producing energy from bagasse, a byproduct of sugar manufacturing.
