Peru's National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) has temporarily halted the import of several fresh fruits from Chile, including nectarines, cherries, plumcots, peaches, plums, apricots, and apples, due to concerns over the Grapholita molesta pest, also known as the Eastern Peach Moth. This pest poses a significant threat to stone fruit crops by damaging developing fruits. The suspension, outlined in Directorial Resolution No. 014-2024-Midagri-Senasa-DSV, is a precautionary measure to prevent the pest's entry into Peru. The ban will remain in effect until further pest risk analysis and investigations are conducted in collaboration with Chilean authorities to establish new phytosanitary measures for the safe importation of these fruits.
