Peruvian cocoa exports are projected to double in 2024, reaching US$780 million, according to Anaximandro Rojas Gil, president of the Peruvian Association of Cocoa Producers. Peru is also the birthplace of cocoa, with the earliest evidence of domestication dating back 5,300 years.
