In September 2024, Peru experienced a significant boost in onion exports, with a total of 43,856 tons earning US$ 22.98 million, marking a 39% increase in volume and 58% increase in value compared to the same period in 2023. This success was largely due to a 13% rise in the average price per kilogram of onions, reaching US$ 0.52. The expansion of markets to 19 destinations included the United States, Spain, and Colombia, with the US being the primary market. Exports to the US saw a doubling in value, amounting to US$ 16.84 million for 26,637 tons, while exports to Spain experienced a decrease in value despite an increase in volume. Colombian markets also showed growth, with a 4% increase in value and an 11% increase in average price.
