The Philippine Coconut Association (PCA) is planning to boost the country's coconut production, which has declined due to the aging of trees, by replacing old trees and building new processing plants in Visayas and Mindanao. The strategy aims to increase production by 15% in the first year, with gradual increases to 20% and 25% in subsequent years. The PCA is also urging the government to increase its fertilizer budget and expand fertilizer coverage. Despite challenges like El Nino and La Nina, the Philippines, the world's second-largest coconut producer after Indonesia and the largest exporter, expects a steady growth in production by 3-5% annually.
