The Uruguayan Association of Pork Producers (AUPC) is advocating for local pork producers to supply at least 2% of the pork used by industries in Uruguay, and for fair pricing of their products. The current situation is critical as the sector experiences significant losses, with producers struggling to sell pork due to competition from imported meat. Currently, 80% of the pork sold in Uruguay is imported from Brazil. The AUPC has proposed that local industries buy 2% of their total meat processing volume from local producers, which is under consideration by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP).
