The Regional Directorate of Agriculture of Piura, through the Agrarian Agency Chira, promoted the formalization and establishment of two new agrarian cooperatives: the Agrarian Cooperative “Cítricos del Chira” and the Agrarian Cooperative of Organic Banana Producers “Raíz y Vida – Jibito”. The first, made up of 103 producers who manage 300 hectares of lemon, will be dedicated to the production of lemon oil for export, a product with high international demand. The second, formed by 67 farmers who manage 125 hectares, plans to triple its banana production from two to six containers per week within two years. Both initiatives respond to specific problems: in the case of lemon, the price crisis that affected the sector at the beginning of 2025; and in the case of banana, the need to avoid the loss of the productive chain in Jibito and ensure the continuity of exports.
