A case of moniliasis, a pest that affects cocoa and cupuaçu fruits, has been identified in Brazil, specifically in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. The disease was first reported to the Institute of Defense and Agriculture of Acre (Idaf-AC) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) by a resident. Following confirmation of the pest, teams from both institutions were dispatched to the area to provide guidance to producers and prevent the spread of the disease. Moniliasis poses significant economic risks due to its ability to cause damage to the commercial part of the plant. The fungus does not pose a threat to human health. Surveillance and educational efforts have been ongoing since 2018, following the detection of the fungus in other South American countries.
