Italy is facing a crisis in plum tree cultivation due to adverse climatic conditions and low consumer interest. The country ranks 9th globally in plum production, with Emilia Romagna being the leading region. The Angeleno® Suplumsix * variety is widely cultivated, along with a few European plum varieties. However, the industry is grappling with a structural crisis, with only 7% of surfaces under cultivation showing innovation. The free palmette system and Mirabolano 29C rootstock are preferred in Emilia Romagna, while Piedmont's production has significantly dropped. This has led to a variety selection guide being compiled to assist fruit growers in choosing profitable varieties.
