The port of Al Hoceima in Morocco reported a 49% increase in coastal and artisanal fishing landings, reaching 728 tonnes at the end of February 2024, according to the National Office Fisheries (ONP). The market value of these catches also rose by 58% to around 43.64 million dirhams. However, there was a decrease in the quantities of pelagic fish landed by 33% and crustaceans by 67%, while there was an increase in landings of white fish by 2% and cephalopods by 87%. Despite the local increase, nationally, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products were down 22% to 91,996 tonnes.
