REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The decline in food prices led to deflation of 0.08 percent on a monthly basis (mtm) in August 2025. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that the food, beverages, and tobacco group was the largest contributor to deflation. “The spending group that contributed the most to monthly deflation is the food, beverages, and tobacco group with deflation of 0.29 percent and contributing 0.08 percent to deflation,” said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini in a BPS release in Jakarta, Monday (1/9/2025). In terms of commodities, tomatoes were the largest contributor to deflation with a contribution of 0.10 percent, followed by chili peppers at 0.07 percent. Outside the food group, air transportation fares contributed 0.03 percent and gasoline 0.02 percent to deflation.
