Vietnam is Japan's top supplier of shrimp, making up 24% of the market. In the first two quarters of 2023, Japan imported $236 million worth of shrimp from Vietnam, with white shrimp accounting for $150 million and black tiger shrimp accounting for $42 million. However, Vietnam faced challenges in exporting shrimp to Japan due to the depreciation of the yen, which affected consumption and prices in the market. Despite this, Vietnamese shrimp products still hold an advantage compared to other markets, with Vietnam maintaining a 24% market share compared to Thailand's 18%.
