A study by the Regional Institute of Agri-Food and Forestry Research and Development of Castilla-La Mancha (IRIAF), led by Dr. Gonzalo Ortiz de Elguea Culebras at the Albaladejito Agroforestry Research Center (CIAF), has revealed that Spanish sage and its distillation residues offer significant benefits. The research found that domesticated Spanish sage adapts well to cultivation, producing residues rich in compounds with antioxidant, antifungal, photoprotective, and biostimulant properties. These findings open up potential applications in food preservation, cosmetics, experimental medicine, and agriculture, underscoring the importance of optimal plant material selection and the versatile use of Spanish sage's residual biomass across various industries.
