Morteza Suri, in a recent interview, emphasized the significance of the fishing industry in food security and livelihood in Iran, supporting 60,000 people. The province's fisheries production exceeds 125,000 tons, with aquaculture and sea fishing contributing 61% and 39% respectively. The completion of the Shadgan Abu Khuzair National Fishing Port project and the Shahid Ahmadian Khorramshahr Thermal Fish Breeding Complex has further boosted the industry. Khorramshahr city alone accounts for about 11% of the country's tropical fish production. Suri also highlighted the completion of the largest sturgeon breeding project in Khuzestan and a 395-hectare shrimp breeding project, but noted that 154 fisheries projects still require funding for completion.
