The article highlights the success of lotus cultivation in the communes of Duy Xuyen district in Quang Nam province, Vietnam, which has become a profitable alternative for farmers, especially in areas with poor soil conditions or water scarcity, previously unsuitable for rice cultivation. The lotus plant's adaptability, low maintenance, and high profit margin, with up to two harvests per year, have helped escape poverty for many households. Additionally, the industry creates job opportunities for the elderly and children in peeling lotus seeds. The district has expanded its lotus cultivation area to over 100 hectares, becoming the largest in Quang Nam province, and has received recognition for its 3-star OCOP product. The province is encouraging more farmers to adopt lotus cultivation through financial and logistical support, promising to improve livelihoods and provide a more stable income compared to traditional rice and fish farming.
