Meat consumption in Europe is projected to decrease due to a decline in the supply of pork and beef, although there will be a slight increase of 1% in poultry meat supply. The limited production growth in Europe has resulted in high prices, particularly in the Netherlands where the switch to slow-growing chicken concepts has led to a decrease in broiler chickens being slaughtered. Poultry slaughterhouses are facing competition from imports, leading to an increase in the import of live poultry for slaughter from Germany.
