The exponential growth of water buffalo production is due to various factors, mainly the adaptation to the climatic conditions of the region. Corrientes, Chaco, and Formosa have been focusing on the development of the activity in recent years, and this has allowed the sector to position itself as an alternative. Irina Martínez, a researcher from INTA Corrientes, speaks about the main productive characteristics of the buffalo in the province of Corrientes. Water buffalo production in Argentina has been carried out for over 30 years, and currently, the population of this species is concentrated in the provinces of Corrientes with 45%, Formosa with 21%, and Chaco with 15%. Since 1993, with a base of 4,000 heads of cattle, the number reached 190,260 heads in 2024. The breeding of this type of cattle has grown by 54% in the last 10 years.
