Peru is attempting to diversify its agro-export portfolio and is considering adding cherries and raspberries to its line-up, following the success of blueberries. However, Peru's attempt to include cherries has been hampered by the need for colder climates and higher resources, whereas raspberries are seen as a promising crop for small producers. The United States and China, both important trading partners of Peru, have a high demand for raspberries. The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) is currently testing the 'Heritage' raspberry variety in Tacna, with plans to expand to other regions.
