Georgia's kiwi market has seen a significant shift, with imports reaching over 50% of the country's production for the first time, indicating a rise in demand. Iran remains the primary supplier of these imports, which surpassed domestic production by 55% last season. Meanwhile, 10% of the local production was exported, primarily to Japan. The total supply of kiwi on the Georgian market has been on a steady rise since the 2016-2017 season, doubling by the 2022-2023 season due to increased demand from Russian immigrants and post-pandemic economic recovery. Despite the challenges, there is potential for growth in local kiwi production if it can surpass imports from Iran.
