Korean agri-food exports to the EU are expected to continue to grow after reaching an all-time high in 2020, with favorable exports of kimchi, ramen, and soy sauce. However, the EU's revised complex food import regulations, which took effect on April 21, 2021, could act as a threat to this booming export trend. The regulations require specific confirmation of the contents of each product to address risks in advance. The revised regulations also have two-pronged management regulations based on the ingredient itself and storage conditions. Despite these challenges, it is expected that Korean food's entry into the European market will be further activated if domestic food companies preparing for export are well-aware of the relevant laws.
