Kyrgyzstan has seen a significant increase in rice cultivation over the past 30 years, with the sown area expanding fivefold and the gross volume of rice production growing 24 times, reaching 47.5-48 thousand tons in 2024. The Ministry of Agriculture has reported that the rice sown area in 2023 was 11.8 thousand hectares, which increased to 12.2 thousand hectares in 2024, with a yield of 38 centners per hectare. The country's rice production includes a variety of local and Uzbek rice varieties, with the Osh region known for its demand for rice in various shades of brown, while the Jalal-Abad and Batken regions predominantly produce white rice for dietary and culinary uses.
