In 2023, Brazil's agricultural production reached a value of R$814.5 billion, with the top 100 most productive municipalities contributing 31.9% of this amount, totaling R$260 billion, as per a survey by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Rio Grande do Sul state is home to three out of these 100 municipalities, led by Santa Vitória do Palmar, which is the leading state in rice production and planted area, accounting for nearly 70% of Brazil's rice production. Other significant agricultural activities in the state include soybeans, corn, and wheat, with Dom Pedrito and Vacaria also making notable contributions as top rice producers and being the second and third largest soybean producers in Rio Grande do Sul, respectively. The economic significance of agriculture, especially rice cultivation, in Rio Grande do Sul cannot be overstated, providing employment and playing a crucial role in Brazil's agricultural sector.
