The United States Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is capitalizing on the global rise in meat prices by marketing underutilized pork cuts and variety meats. These products, which are excess in the U.S. but highly demanded internationally, are being promoted as cost-effective alternatives. The strategy has seen success in Japan, where a duty decrease on picnic meat imports has led to increased demand for U.S. picnics. Similarly, in Mexico and Central America, mobile grill programs are being used to educate on the cost-effective use of these pork cuts. The USMEF is funded by the USDA, the National Pork Board, and checkoffs from soybean and corn.
