The Republic of Korea and Taiwan have intensified their inspection protocols for imported chili, including those from Việt Nam, to ensure the safety and quality of these products. South Korea, through its Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, is specifically scrutinizing Vietnamese chili for seven pesticide residues until March 30, 2025, with eight approved laboratories in Việt Nam supporting these efforts. Concurrently, Taiwan has ramped up its inspection of all imported chili, especially after detecting banned substances in shipments from China, leading to a ban on chili imports from certain companies in China, Việt Nam, Thailand, and Mexico. These measures are in response to a significant increase in Việt Nam's chili exports, which surged by 34.5% to US$72 million in 2023.
