Russia's agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has imposed a ban on the import of tomatoes and peppers from Armenia's Armavir region, effective from December 14, 2020. The decision was made after the detection of the Pepino mosaic virus in a consignment from the region. Despite negotiations with Armenia's National Plant Protection Office and requests for improved control measures, the Rosselkhoznadzor has not received the necessary information to ensure the import of virus-free vegetables. The ban is in line with international conventions and is part of a series of restrictions on the import of vegetables from neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and certain provinces of Turkey.
