Brazil has introduced Ordinance nº 1,448 to regulate fishing authorizations for national vessels, aiming for the sustainable use of fishing resources. The ordinance, which will be enforced from January 2024, has been developed with input from various stakeholders. It introduces new fishing modalities, including diving and the use of trynet in double trawl fishing. It also allows professional fishing vessels in continental waters to register and access public policies. The ordinance increases the number of fishing modalities subject to authorization from 75 to 83. A detailed procedure for applying the new fishing modalities will be published six months prior to the ordinance's implementation.
