Brazil: Rules for managing fishing permits for national vessels are published

Ordinance nº 1,448 was published, which establishes the fishing modalities and the general rules for the management of fishing authorizations for national vessels for the sustainable use of fishing resources. The publication results from the revision of the Interministerial Normative Instruction MPA/MMA nº 10, of July 10, 2011, carried out through a process with the participation of the various segments of the fishing activity. The review process was carried out in four stages: collective construction (2019), workshop with the productive sector and scientific community (2020), consultation with researchers (technical-scientific evaluation of the draft) and public consultation. With the ordinance, for the first time, professional fishing vessels in continental waters will be able to obtain registration with the competent body, legal security and access to public policies, such as credit lines that stimulate the freshwater fish production chain in the country.
