Goesan County in South Korea is welcoming 75 seasonal workers from Uzbekistan to alleviate the manpower shortage in the farming industry, which was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The workers will be required to self-isolate and undergo COVID-19 testing before starting work. They will be engaged in corn farming during the harvest season and later shifted to pickled cabbage production. The workers will be with the farmers for five months, adhering to a memorandum that ensures their return to their country in case of unexpected circumstances like COVID-19 infection. This move is significant as it marks the first admission of foreign seasonal workers in the country this year, with other regions showing interest in Goesan County's approach.
