In January 2021, Russian dairy imports were down by 10% compared to the same period in 2020, with a total volume of 577 thousand tons valued at USD 202.6 million, a 25% decrease from the previous year. The National dairy Producers Union of Russia (Soyuzmoloko) reported a decline in supply for all product categories, except cheese. The main suppliers were the Republic of Belarus (75%), New Zealand (8%), Argentina (5%), Uruguay (4%), and Kyrgyzstan (2%). Belarus provided the majority of Fluid milk and cream, skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, fermented milk products, whey powder, butter, quark, and almost all ice cream. Cheese products, however, accounted for only 14% of Belarus' supplies to Russia, with the share of cheese in the import structure increasing compared to 2020.
