From January to August 2021, Russia saw a 2.9% increase in agricultural exports to the European Union, reaching 4.2 million tonnes, and a 32% rise in export value to $2.4 billion. The Netherlands and Latvia were the top buyers, with the Netherlands increasing its imports by 30% to $650 million, mainly due to fish and seafood, and Latvia raising its imports by 48% to $371 million, primarily due to wheat and corn. Other significant imports included fish fillets, crustaceans, sunflower meal, beet pulp, and wheat. Despite being a self-sufficient food importer, the EU is projected to import more maize, meat, and fish and seafood by 2030.
