Russia is seeing a growth in the production of its own fruits and berries, with pome crops like apples, pears, and quince making up a larger share of the total harvest. The gross harvest of these fruits in 2023 was 2.89 million tons, an increase from 2022. Kabardino-Balkaria was the leading region in production, followed by Krasnodar Krai and Crimea. The majority of the production was harvested by large agricultural organizations, with some support from households and farmers. Intensive orchards are playing a key role in achieving import substitution, a goal that Rosselkhozbank is supporting through the establishment of plantings and construction of fruit storage facilities. The bank has allocated around 22 billion rubles to support the fruit and berry industry.
