The article provides an overview of the current state of poppy supply for food use in Russia. It highlights the challenges and solutions faced in sourcing this essential ingredient, which is widely used in Russian bakery products. The rise in logistics costs has led to a significant price increase of 38% over the past year. Traditionally, Russia has relied heavily on imports, particularly from the Czech Republic, but has recently started to explore domestic production. In 2020, the ban on poppy cultivation was lifted, and the Bryansk region has initiated an investment project to cultivate poppy and produce active pharmaceutical ingredients, aiming to reduce import dependence and ensure drug safety. The initial poppy crop in the Bryansk region, despite facing adverse weather conditions, was successful and showed promise in combating the issues of import dependence and drug safety concerns.
