The increase in red caviar production still largely depends on Russia's salmon catch.
According to scientists, the total Pacific salmon catch in Russia's Far East region may reach 311,700 tons in 2025, compared to 235,000 tons in 2024.
The Kamchatka Territory is expected to have the largest catch, reaching 199,250 tons, followed by the Sakhalin Region with 62,190 tons, and the Khabarovsk Territory with 36,380 tons.
The 2025 salmon fishing season will begin on May 1 in the Sakhalin Region, and in the Kamchatka Region on June 1. The fishing season is expected to end on November 30 in the Southern Kuril Islands.
In April 2025, the Russian government approved a new law limiting the transportation of red caviar until August 1, 2027.
According to the law, passengers can carry no more than 10 kilograms of caviar per flight, not only from the Kamchatka Region but also from other regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, such as the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and the Khabarovsk Territory.
