For the 2024 fishing season, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) has set the allowable catch volume for olive ridley curvina in the Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta at 4,113 tons. This decision, guided by recommendations from the Mexican Institute for Research in Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (IMIPAS), is aimed at ensuring sustainable fishing practices. The quota applies to holders of commercial fishing permits, specifies designated landing sites in Sonora and Baja California, and includes provisions for the Cucapá indigenous community. Enforcement of this regulation, which includes penalties for non-compliance, will begin on April 12, 2024, involving Sader, Conapesca, and the Secretary of the Navy.
