A new pest, the apricot aphid (Myzus mumecola), has been discovered in the European part of Russia, specifically in the Donetsk People's Republic and the Rostov region. This pest, originally from Asia, has previously been found in Italy, Hungary, Germany, and Serbia. The aphid causes significant damage to apricot plants by reducing yield and potentially spreading plum pox, a quarantined viral disease. Scientists are now focusing on identifying the pest's secondary food sources and are recommending a monitoring system and the use of insecticides to control the population.
