Last year, sea cucumber production increased by 438% and white sand mussel production by 21% among other seafood products. According to the statistics published by TÜİK Balıkesir Regional Directorate on aquatic product production for 2024, aquatic product production decreased by 7.6% compared to the previous year, dropping to 933,194 tons. The production consisted of 31.1% sea fish caught through fishing, 3.5% other marine products caught through fishing, 3.6% inland water products caught through fishing, and 61.8% aquaculture products. While marine product fishing decreased by 23.3% compared to the previous year, inland water product fishing increased by 0.2%. Production of other marine products such as blue crab, squid, shrimp, sea cucumber (sea slug), white sand mussel, octopus, and scallop decreased by 3%, falling to 32,394 tons.
