Turkey's sea snail exports, which are not consumed domestically, surged by 29% in the first half of 2023, reaching $8.43 million and increasing from 603 to 750 tons. Major markets include South Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, the USA, Ukraine, and Romania, with South Korea being the largest importer. Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association, emphasized the role of these exports in generating foreign currency and protecting the ecosystem, noting that all caught sea snails are processed and exported. He expects further growth, particularly in Far Eastern markets.
