In August 2021, Vietnam's seafood exports experienced a significant decline, with a value of 224.8 million USD, marking a 22% decrease from July and a 24% decrease from the same month the previous year. This downturn is primarily due to Covid-19-related challenges such as social distancing, reduced plant capacity, and interruptions in the supply chain. With the exception of bivalve molluscs, the export values of most seafood products fell by double-digits compared to August 2020. Despite these setbacks, the total seafood export value for the first eight months of the year increased by 7% compared to the same period in 2020. The top five markets for Vietnam's squid and octopus include South Korea, the CPTPP, the EU, Thailand, and China. The export value to these markets varied, with the EU seeing the most growth and China experiencing the largest decline.
