According to the updated forecast of the European Commission (EC), in 2025/26 the EU will produce around 8.53 million tons of sunflower, which is only 240 thousand tons (2.9%) more than in the unfavorable year for European agriculture 2024/25 (8.29 million tons). For comparison, in 2023/24, the yield of the oilseed crop in the EU amounted to 9.80 million tons, in 2022/23 - 9.30 million tons, and in 2021/22 - 10.30 million tons. Experts note that a certain increase in production in the current marketing year is expected due to higher yields, despite reduced acreage. According to the EC, the average sunflower yield per hectare in 2025/26 is expected to amount to 1.80 tons, compared to 1.70 tons in the previous 2024/25 year. It should be noted that the result of 1.80 tons per hectare is quite below the long-term average value of the past years - 2.10 tons per hectare.
