[Agricultural and Fisheries News=Reporter Park Nara] This year, following the rice harvest, damage from rice blast and sprouting rice has been occurring in rice paddies across the Chungnam region, raising concerns about next year's crop yield. The Chungnam Provincial Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Kim Young) stated that the decline in rice quality due to abnormal weather is worsening, urging farmers to secure high-quality seeds and practice thorough seed management. According to the Provincial Agricultural Technology Institute, this year, rice blast has spread due to high temperatures and frequent rain after the heading stage. Brown circular spots appear on the leaves, reducing photosynthesis, and when the ear is infected, the ripening rate drops, damaging rice quality. Additionally, rain during the harvest period has caused sprouting rice (sprout germination) in the ears.
