The Cassava Culture Seminar was held in Umuarama, Brazil, bringing together producers, agro-industrialists, and technicians to discuss various aspects of cassava cultivation. Organized by the Rural Society, Umuarama City Hall, and other organizations, the event highlighted the challenges and opportunities within the sector. Valter de Moura Carloto, president of the Brazilian Association of Cassava Starch Producers (ABAM), stressed the need for mechanization of harvesting and the creation of the Cassava Development Fund (FDM CS Brasil) for research in this area. The seminar also addressed sustainable soil and water management, issues of income and fertilization, the current difficulties in the cassava market such as high prices, low supply, and falling starch content, and the challenges of industrial productivity and rising production costs.
